A sunny morning and preparations for Saint Nicholas' Day are under way ... a selection of legends to be summarised this morning and then put on laminated cards for information. Some colouring sheets to do so that younger visitors can have a little bit of fun while learning about the saint ... and then photographs ... some powerpoint selections with pictures from Patara, Myra and Bari .... this should keep me out of mischief today!
The second Advent Cracker has been opened and a small camel has joined yesterday's shepherd ... twenty four days to create the entire scene! It is awfully tempting to open them all at once ... but ... maybe there is a lesson is "waiting" here!
It is probably time to start getting decorations down from the roof space ... but ... that may have to wait for another day or two!
The Collect of the First Sunday of Advent.
Almighty God,
Give us grace to cast away the works of darkness
and to put on the armour of light
now in the time of this mortal life
in which your Son Jesus Christ came to us in great humility;
that on the last day
when he shall come again in his glorious majesty
to judge the living and the dead,
we may rise to the life immortal;
through him who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Give us grace to cast away the works of darkness
and to put on the armour of light
now in the time of this mortal life
in which your Son Jesus Christ came to us in great humility;
that on the last day
when he shall come again in his glorious majesty
to judge the living and the dead,
we may rise to the life immortal;
through him who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
