The nativity scene is set ... all that remains is for the Christ child to come ...
This year the candles are in little glass holders so that we don't have a mini-fire ... that's a lesson learned from last year when three of the tea lights joined in a single flame during the 2009 Nine Lessons and Carols. Not a good thing! No harm done and the extra sand kept under the table for just such an eventuality came in very handy indeed.
I love having the candles lit on it - so today at the lunch time Holy Communion they were all sparkling away as folk came in. Since it was a dull and very cold afternoon they did add a little glow of warmth to that corner of the church.
And so too did the Advent Wreath, now with three candles lit.
O Lord our God,
make us watchful and keep us faithful
as we await the coming of your Son our Lord;
that, when he shall appear,
he may find us not sleeping in sin,
but active in his service and joyful in his praise;
for the glory of your holy name. Amen.
The Promise of His Glory.
