2010:365:293 Quiet work ...

The two or three hours before a day becomes busy are good for sermon writing.  Early work is done in pencil so part of the ritual is getting five or six well sharpened leads ready and setting out the text, notebook and coffee.  Today I decided to work in the breakfast room where the table was clear and there weren't any distractions.
The passage is the Zacchaeus story from Luke's gospel, chapter nineteen.   It's one of the appointed readings for 31st October and I need to get that sermon written in the next couple of days.  Once the ideas are drafted in pencil the notes are then taken upstairs to my study where the whole thing is typed up and printed.  That's for another occasion.
So this is how today began!
The rest of the time was an enjoyable mix of meetings, Holy Communion, bits and pieces of other things and finished up with choir practice.  That always does my heart good.  Just listening to the different parts all coming together to make a wonderful blend of harmony can take you into the heavenly realms.  You'll have the opportunity to hear them on 31st on Radio 4 in the Sunday Service that goes out at 8.10 am.  I suspect that my mind will turn to that date more than once or twice in the next ten days!

Worship, honour, glory, blessing,
Lord, we offer to your name;
young and old, your praise expressing,
join their Saviour to proclaim.
As the saints in heaven adore you,
we would bow before your throne;
as your angels serve before you,
so on earth your will be done.

Church Hymnal number 709 verse 3
Canticle "Laudate Dominum"
