2010:365:250 Night

Sometimes it is easy to blog early ... other days it is almost bedtime!  There's no law!
Technology is this week's theme for 365Project so I've been taking pictures of items around the house. The old oil lamp, useful if there's a power cut, sits on the dining room mantle piece.
Beside it lies the contemporary gas lighter.
Technology from the 1940s meets the twenty first century.
It is used more frequently for candle lighting.
In the evening I love the glow of candlelight and this has a particularly interesting shape and beautiful soft light.
There's no doubt that even a small candle can dispel the darkness - no wonder Jesus used the idea of his followers being like lights to illustrate the change that one person can make in society!  If each believer lives openly as a witness to his or her faith then others will be drawn to Jesus who is the true light - the Light of the World.

Blessed are you, Sovereign God,
creator of light and darkness!
As evening falls, you renew your promise
to reveal among us the light of your presence.
May your word be a lantern to our feet
and a light upon our path,
that we may behold your glory coming among us.
Strengthen us in our stumbling weakness
and free our tongues to sing your praise,
Father, Son and Holy Spirit:
Blessed be God for ever!

Great shot of "light".
As you say, a candlegives off a lot of light in the darkness.
Beautiful lamp!
