DREICH, adj.
Also: dreigh,
dreech, -gh,
driech, -gh,
driche,
drigh,
dree and
dreif
Spell it anyway you wish ... today was certainly dreich!
In context dreich means dreary, cheerless, bleak.
"In the cauld dreich days
when it's nicht on the
back o' four"
That a line from a poem by Sir Alexander Gray.
Dreich has a much wider use than just the weather ... it may refer to a dull sermon, a person, or a task that is long and tedious.
So, here's hoping that tomorrow's sermon on Jonah isn't dreich! There's a map on the notice sheet to keep people engaged (I hope).
There wasn't room for a cartoon that I'd found on a friend's page.
Good night!
