Bank Holiday

In a word ... "WET"
Castle Espie in the rain!  The birds were numerous and the humans glad of the shelter of the hides.  Actually it didn't rain for the entire day so there was a chance to see the seven hundred Oyster Catchers that had flocked to the mud flats.
This is a record number and officials think that it has something to do with the unusual moon.  Catching a picture of them that helps to convey the density proved to be an impossible task for my camera.
A nesting Black Headed Gull put on a good display just outside one of the hides ... unfortunately it was the one where the windows don't open so the pictures were taken through rather grubby glass.

The rain cleared for just a few minutes before one very heavy downpour.

With so much rain it wasn't possible to get any pictures of the ducks ... so I'll just have to return to Castle Espie on a dry day!
Lunch ...

This was the delightful presentation of the traditional dish of "Fish and Chips" ... a feast for the eyes as well as everything else!  Eton Mess with rhubarb and custard is a modern take on the more usual dessert.

Lord of all life and power,
who through the mighty resurrection of your Son
overcame the old order of sin and death
to make all things new in him:
Grant that we, being dead to sin
and alive to you in Jesus Christ,
may reign with him in glory;
to whom with you and the Holy Spirit
be praise and honour, glory and might,
now and in all eternity.
