This morning there were a few minutes to spare so Saint Anne's seemed the sensible place to be. The Titanic Pall has been unveiled and is on display. There are details on the Connor website ... but here are a few of today's pictures.
It is a striking tapestry on a midnight blue background.
It is 12' by 8' and trimmed with velvet. The panel is merino felt lined with linen.
A variety of threads make up the thousands of small crosses ... cotton, rayon, silk and metallic. The gold 1,517 Crosses, Stars of David and Crescents represent the lives lost in the disaster.
White and silver are used as symbols of the iceberg although there are at least fifty colours employed in the work.
The different sizes of crosses emphasize a falling off into the ocean.
This is a magnificent piece of work and well worth a visit to Saint Anne's to appreciate it. Photographs just don't do it justice!
