2010:365:301 Thursday ...

 Two big fat books arrived today from Amazon (or a company that sells second-hand books through them).  One of them cost just one penny!  Postage was a bit more than that.
Each of them has three books in one, so you couldn't complain about value for money.  Mind you, the subject matter feels a bit like a busman's holiday!
There wasn't a chance to read them as the day (supposedly a day off) turned out to be a little bit busy.  Will pop them into the guest room for the weekend!
The piano tuner arrived this morning ... then BT called to say that they needed access to the church!  So, with dog to accompany me, I dashed along to open up so that the phone lines could be installed for the broadcast.  It was raining but that didn't stop us taking a little walk.
Traffic was slow on the way home which left me late for the Rural Deanery meeting .... that and the fact that the tuner started to tell me something that took a bit longer than I'd bargained for!
The meeting must have started without any chit chat or conversation at all ... I was only five minutes late and prayers were already well under way!  (Today is the feast of Saint Simon and Saint Jude.)  Ah well ... I do wish there could be some time for fellowship and enjoying being with each other.
An afternoon to catch up with myself was interrupted by planning Sunday night's service and sermon redrafting for the morning .... and that's still not completed.  Writing this blog is an attempt to let the various ideas settle into some sort of logical order.
Right now, Eliot is sitting on my feet.  He's dying to go out but with the noise of fireworks he will go only as far as the back door and then scurries back into the house.  I guess he'll follow me around for the next few nights until all the bangers are banged.
Another blog that really doesn't say anything at all .... just a window into the life of a neurotic dog (who is now sitting on the other foot) and his owner who is beginning to feel (or sound) just as mad as he!  Good night!

Almighty God,
who built your Church upon the foundation
of the apostles and prophets
with Jesus Christ himself as the chief corner-stone:
So join us together in unity of spirit by their doctrine
that we may be made a holy temple acceptable to you;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Book of Common Prayer.
Collect of Saint Simon and Saint Jude.
