Sunday 5 September 2010

2010:365:248 Gloomy ....

The evening has closed in and the sky is heavy ... tipping down a constant heavy drizzle.  Autumn is here with a vengeance and quantities of leaves are already blowing off the trees.  Sheltering in the summer house I tried to capture the colour on the beech tree but at seven o'clock the light was already too poor.
Earlier in the afternoon I unpacked the turtles that were bought at the Car Boot Sale yesterday ... two soft cuddly toys, four fairly roughly carved and painted wooden examples and .... five elephants!
Four of the elephants are in the same style as the turtles and one is carved from a piece of coal!
They'll go off to a new home in the next few days .... the only elephant that I have is a small glass one from a factory in Swaziland that I bought there some years ago and I'll not part with it just yet.
The turtle in the collage top left is a garden ornament (but will never see the garden!) and came as a gift on Friday.  So the collection grows and grows.
Apart from a celebration of Holy Communion this morning it feels as if very little has been accomplished today.  Perhaps that is the way a Sunday should be from time to time.  It is an opportunity to draw breath, to relax and, in today's case, to doze!

Almighty God,
whose only Son has opened for us
a new and living way into your presence:
Give us pure hearts and steadfast wills
to worship you in spirit and in truth,
through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Book of Common Prayer
Collect of the Fourteenth Sunday after Trinity.
