How did we get this far into 2010 without a picture of the pampered pet? Here he is in his soft bed beside a radiator; although those who know Eliot well will wonder why he's not in his armchair. Maybe it is because he can see me from this location? Who knows what goes on in his very active brain. I do know that as soon as I put on my socks he'll be at the door ready for the walk that he senses will follow.
Meanwhile Eliot just waits, and waits.
He's a picture of relaxation and contentment. Eliot doesn't have to worry about his next meal - that will arrive with reasonable regularity. He's content to eat the same kind of food day after day without complaint. (Though he seldom refuses a treat, especially if it is a tasty bit of smelly tripe!)
Don't be deceived by his appearance of inertia. Should he hear a sound outside he'll be up and barking, if I move from the computer he'll be at my heels, if a mouse makes an appearance he'll be frantic in his fruitless chase.... he's fully alert as well as appearing to be asleep!
O God
from whom all holy desires
all good judgments
and all just works proceed:
Give to your servants
that peace which the world cannot give,
that our hearts may be set to obey your commandments,
and that we, being defended from the fear of our enemies,
may pass our time in rest and quietness;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
