2010:365 Day Seven. Blog Seven. Photograph Seven.

Not the brightest day in Belfast - quite a contrast to the blue sky of yesterday. This 2010:365 photograph is of the road just beside my house as I left to go to the Roselawn this afternoon. The picture is in full colour and untouched by any computer trick - today's weather really was a grey and black as it looks!
The funeral was of a ninety six year old railway fanatic who not only spent all his life on the railway but also his retirement in pursuit of his hobby. The mourners has endless stories to tell and had come from all over the country including towns as far as Drogheda, Monaghan and Londonderry. It was a delight to have a part to play in giving him a "good send off". Not many folk of that age can pack out the crematorium - he and his brother made and cultivated a wide circle of friends.
The words of John 14 always bring comfort and hope - "peace I leave with you.... my peace I give to you...". I was delighted to find a retired colleague among the mourners who was willing to read the scriptures - Robert has known the bereaved family since he was a schoolboy and leaving to board in Sligo from the station where the deceased's father was Station Master! A small world!
So far, seven days and seven+ photographs.... fifty one more weeks to go!
Almighty God,
Father of all mercies, and giver of all comfort:
Deal graciously, we pray, with those who mourn,
that, casting all their care on you,
they may know the consolation of your love;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
From the Funeral Service (Book of Common Prayer)

Hello Elizabeth - my name is Judy and I'm a Salvation Army Officer in Barking, UK. I came across your blog via Gary as we are all taking part in the 365-2010 project.

Glad the funeral went well and it is always encouraging when there is a good attendance to bid farewell to a loved one. I'm taking a graveside funeral next Tuesday so I hope it's warmed up by then!!!
