The Epiphany

This is the lower section of one of the east windows in Saint Nicholas'.  It is a beautiful depiction of the visit of the Magi ... and the infant appears to be looking at the one who brought myrrh and saying, "you know what this is all about!"

Part of the day has been spent in preparation for tomorrow.

I was passing a Burger King restaurant and saw the crowns waiting for the younger customers ... in a moment of madness (or inspiration) I asked to purchase three ... but the lad told me to take them for nothing!   He also wanted to know if three were enough.   Well ... there's no record of three wise men ... but that's the tradition that has developed over the years ... and three I'll stick with!

It didn't take long with a can of spray paint to cover the writing and make them look 'golden'!

Next task was to get together the information for Chalking the Doors.

20 + C + M + B + 18

The inscription has two meanings. First, it represents the initials of the Wise Men or Magi – Caspar, Melchior, and Balthazar – who came to visit the Christ Child in his first home.

Second, it abbreviates the Latin phrase, Christus mansionem benedicat, ‘May Christ bless the house.’

The ‘+’ figures signify the cross, and the figures ‘20’ at the beginning and ‘18’ at the end mark the year.

Taken together, this is a request for Christ to bless the home that has been marked and that he may stay with those who live there throughout the entire year.

So tomorrow I must ensure that there are enough pieces of chalk for people to take home and bless their homes.

Then, finally, making the collection of stars that will be given out during the service tomorrow.  Each star has a word that becomes the recipient's word for 2018.  A word to be lived out in every aspect of life.  But it is a gift word ... to be accepted, or not, as each one decides.

In between ... Dougal got a walk!   A new collar arrived in the post today ... all lights and reflective material ... so he cut quite a figure in the park!

I hope you've had a good Epiphany and will find your way to some church tomorrow, wherever you are!
