Don't always trust appearances.

I was up very early this morning so these photographs were taken around five o'clock in the house lights.  There are just two pieces of Wedgwood in the house - the blue urn and this sage green dish.
The white pieces are so delicate and detailed - but when I got in close up there was a considerable amount of dust that has accumulated over the years.
The maker's mark is clearly impressed on the base and no doubt the actual potter could be traced through the letters.  To show the scale you need some kind of reference point - and to see it being held in my hand shows it is clearly just a small pin tray.
Through the "magic" of "Microsoft paint" the little mark on the dish that you can see in the top left in this photograph was removed for the first picture!  A good wash with some mild detergent will probably take it off properly but that can wait for another opportunity.
These days you're never quite sure just what has been touched up or enhanced in pictures and what is straight out of the camera!  That's particularly so in celebrity photographs for the glossy magazines!  I've been known to remove the odd lamp post or feature that distracts from an image ... so it took almost no time at all to get rid of a little white mark!

Lord of the church, we seek a Father's blessing,
a true repentance and a faith restored,
a swift obedience and a new possessing,
filled with the Holy Spirit of the Lord!
We turn to Christ from all our restless striving,
unnumbered voices with a single prayer:
the living water for our souls' reviving,
in Christ to live, and love and serve and care.

Church Hymnal number 303 verse 2
Timothy Dudley-Smith
