2010:365:285 How do you eat an elephant?

There's only one photograph of Frank from today.  He was in the office as preparation got under way for the Bible Study Group.  The prophet Nehemiah is the topic for a couple of studies and we're looking at the huge task that faced him when he heard the news from Jerusalem.
Bible Study was the last item on today's public agenda although there's got to be a bit of paper work to be done before bed time.  You do wonder why more people don't come to the Bible Study.  If the Bible is the foundation of our faith, if it is God's message to us, if it is the word that guides our lives .... why is it relegated to the three readings on a Sunday in the worship service and left alone for the remainder of the week?  A few minutes of a sermon once a week is hardly nourishment for our souls ....
We had an early start to prepare Saint Nicholas' for a gathering of the retired clergy.  Sitting in the congregation was a lovely experience as others celebrated Holy Communion and organised the worship.  It was good too to have the chance to listen to the organ from the pew.  Clergy don't often have the opportunity to do this and it feeds our souls when the chance comes around.
Coffee followed and we all enjoyed the hospitality of The Coffee Club!  Thank you Mark for a great selection of cakes, scones and other delicious items and for providing the best coffee on the Lisburn Road!

 The display of tea tins in the background provides an interesting cross shape for this photograph.

So ends another day ... and how do you eat an elephant?
One bite at a time!

Grant, O Lord,
that the word which we hear this day
may so take root in our hearts,
that we, living in accordance with your holy will,
may ever praise and magnify your glorious name;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.
