2010:365:175 Just a memory now...

"Cherry ripe, cherry ripe, full and fair ones, come and buy..."  So goes the old song (seventeenth century words by Robert Herrick 1591-1674) and cherries are one of the special summer tastes, now in abundance in the shops.
"Life is a bowl of cherries " was used to describe a carefree life as far back as 1931.  It means that things are going well and life is pleasant!
However the phrase is also used to mean exactly the opposite!  Ironically someone who is finding one problem tumbling over another might say, rather tongue in cheek, "life is just a bowl of cherries"!
Whatever the songs, and the idioms, cherries are a popular and healthy choice in many diets.  They appear to have a role in pain control, are useful as something to help prevent heart attacks and they're a valuable source of vitamin C.
Those that you've seen in these photographs are now a distant memory; a little pile of stones and stalks bears testimony to that.  The photographs will remind me of a very tasty snack enjoyed on the afternoon of this the Feast of the Birth of Saint John the Baptist.

Almighty God,
by whose providence your servant John the Baptist was wonderfully born,
and sent to prepare the way of your Son our Saviour,
by the preaching of repentance:
Lead us to repent according to his preaching,
and, after his example, constantly to speak the truth,
boldly to rebuke vice, and patiently to suffer for the truth's sake;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Such good photos - so shiney and red.
Now you've eaten them, their digital image is caught forever on your computer.
