Sunday 30 May 2010

2010:365:150 Sunday night.

A bowl of tasty fried rice in the garden rounds off a good Sunday.  The day began with a celebration of Holy Communion followed by a service of favourite hymns.  It is always interesting to find out who wrote the hymns and something about the context in which they were penned.  The service ended with "O Jesus, I have promised to serve thee to the end..." written by an Anglican cleric for the occasion of the confirmation of two of his sons and a daughter.  It was a challenging end to the service.
Yesterday's bag packing took its toll so most of the afternoon was spent resting.. aka... sleeping!  I assume Eliot did the same!
This evening was one of the united services held in Windsor Presbyterian Church.  Not many people there... Bank Holiday weekend, sunny evening... who knows?  Attendance is never wonderful.
On the way home I pass my favourite Chinese restaurant.  Actually, I don't always pass it!  Sunday night is regularly a carry out supper after the service and tonight fitted the normal pattern.  The season of Lent is the only time when that is a forbidden treat.
I must be a good customer in this particular restaurant.  Tonight (like last week) a little bottle of red wine was slipped into the bag and it was very much appreciated!  The staff there know me well by now and can recognise my voice on the phone!
So, put everything on a tray and adjourn to the back garden seating on a mild evening... what better way is there to end a good day?  Eliot agreed, and happily enjoyed the few morsels that I reluctantly left for him.

O let me see thy foot-marks,
and in them plant mine own;
my hope to follow duly
is in thy strength alone.
O guide me, call me, draw me,
uphold me to the end;
and then in heaven receive me,
my Saviour and my Friend.

Church Hymnal number 593
"O Jesus, I have promised..." by John E Bode

What a great end to your day.
After your busy day the day before, much needed as you say.
What a nice gesture, getting slipped a bottle of wine to enjoy with your scrumptious food.
Here! Here! Should be more of it :)
